- Wilfred Jordan was born in Philadelphia April 3, 1884, son of John Woolf and Ann (Page) Jordan. His father was a widely known historian and author, having written numerous magazine articles, books and pamphlets on historical subjects. During the Civil War he was an organizer and commander of Starr’s battery, a volunteer artillery unit of the Union Army. He was also president of the Board of Directors of Nazareth Hall Military Academy and of the Moravian College and Seminary for Women, as well as a librarian of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. He was a member of numerous learned and hereditary societies of several of which he serves as president including the following: Society of the Cincinnati, Penn Club, Philomusian Club, Pennsylvania Library Club, American Library Assoiciation, Zoological Society of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Art Club, and others.
Having received his early education at Friends School in Philadelphia, Wilfred Jordan attended Swarthmore Prepratory School and Nazareth Hall Military Academy after which he attended and graduated from LaFayette College. He is well known in the business circles in Philadelphia, having been at one time assistant to the advertising manager of the Fells-Naptha Soap Company. He has also served as curator of the National Museum in the Independence Hall Group in Philadelphia,
as director of public relations of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and as vice president and secretary of the Radio Chamber of Commerce of the United States.He was secretary of the Valley Forge Park Commission for 15 years and secretary to the mayor of the city of Philadelphia. He is a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, the Sons of the Revolution and the historical Society of Pennsylvania as well as historian of the Order of the Liberty Bell and a trustee of the Moravian College and Seminary for Women. His clubs include the Civic Club of Philadelphia and the Old York Road Country Club. His religious affiliations are with the reformed church.
Mr. Jordan married in Philadelphia July 26 1911, Anna Gibson Smith a daughter of Jacob Simon and Mary Elizabeth Smith. Mr. and Mr. Jordan are the parents of one son, John W. Jordan 2nd born in Philadelphia September 27, 1913. Wilfred Jordan is buried in West Laurel Hill Cemetery near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
